It is a very comprehensive and well written story of Shirley’s life. From abandonment in childhood, to the surroundings of artists and musicians. Your descriptions of Shirley are right on Camille. I met Shirley in 1985 at her 50th birthday party. The only time I met Ken was there and I’ll never forget him. He was wearing Hawaiian shorts, backwards, and was playing the ukele. I laughed so hard that night and I remember meeting Shirley. She was so calm and centered and did exude an aura of self assuredness. She was a classic beauty and a very classy lady. Thanks to Cathi, who had invited me, my life changed. Shirley and I traveled to Utah, New Mexico, and California. She opened to me the world of Georgia Okeefe and Mabel Dodge Luhan. She was attracted to strong independent women. Shirley said she was a bohemian at heart. I love your tribute to Ken and Shirley. I was in line too. I was by her side at sickness and health. She was family to me and I will always miss her.

Both were very kind, open and sharing. I was upset when Ken passed and saw Shirley a couple of times after I moved to Dallas. Shirley was a woman of class, full of love and compassion. I will miss them both, a lot.

I’m so sorry she’s gone but no doubt, her life was also enriched by knowing you. It sounds like she was always surrounded by good friends and made the most of everything, which is how it should be. Big hugs!!
