BINGO

I have known Maribel (MAR ee belle) for a week, now. She is the queen of the kitchen and speaks mostly Spanish, whereas I speak mostly English. Every day, we are surprised to hear an unusual word in our language come out of the other one’s mouth.

Today’s word was “Bingo!”

Casa Iguana is famous for its wonderful brewed coffee. Just about every other restaurant on Little Corn Island uses instant coffee. The coffee urn in our lodge reminds me of a bird feeder. It runs dry every 15 minutes and the kitchen staff brews coffee continually.

This morning, the coffee grinder stopped working. Maribel was doing her best to grind up a pound using the food processor. She would grind for a few minutes and check it but the pieces were still too big for brewing.

I was clearing breakfast dishes off a table in the dining room when I heard one word come from the kitchen: “Bingo!” and of course, I knew exactly what that meant.
