Most people take their lives seriously, buying a home and settling into a career. This is not the case with our life. We tend to take ours serially – jumping from place to place and from one job to the next.
To the casual observer it would seem that our life has no plan. In a sense they are right, because we can’t say where we’ll be or what we’ll be doing in 5 years. But actually, we do have a plan, which is to follow our hearts.
So we are planning, it’s just that our planning looks a lot like trapeze artists standing on a circus platform. “Okay,” we say to each other, “We’ll take the next good swing that comes close enough to catch.” Meanwhile, we prepare ourselves and keep our eyes open.
Ironically, we seem to over-plan our vacations. We print out maps and make reservations for everything months ahead. We look at people who go on vacation without a whole lot of planning as a bit scattered and irresponsible.
Which actually isn’t as backwards as it seems. Just as trapeze artists spend hours conditioning themselves physically and mentally before stepping casually up onto the perch, we plan, and plan and then go.
Where will we go next? Right now, we’re looking at Ecuador but honestly, we don’t know. All we know is that when the right opportunity comes our way, we are going to grab it.
